diuretics

Diuretics are among the most common medicines prescribed to those with high blood pressure or hypertension. These are often referred to as water pills by most people as it works by getting rid of the excess salt and water from the body by way of urine excretion. With the fact that there will be lesser fluid in the blood vessels similar to a closed garden hose, the inner pressure will be lowered. This can be easier for the heart to pump. Oftentimes, doctors would first recommend this diuretics medication to help lower the blood pressure.

There are various drug names of diuretics. Some can be taken simultaneously while also taking other medicines.

While on diuretics

It is best to inform the doctor the type of medicines you are using regardless if it is chemical or naturally made. Other medical conditions must also be noted by the physician.

To better see how your kidneys react with the diuretics given, the doctor may conduct a series of blood tests, urine level, and blood pressure monitoring. This can help determine minerals found in the urine as well. It is likely that a low sodium diet may be suggested and salt intake limiting.

Diuretics are sometimes called ‘water tablets’ because they can cause you to pass more urine than usual. They work on your kidneys by increasing the amount of salt and water that comes out through your urine. Too much salt can cause extra fluid to build up in your blood vessels, raising your blood pressure. They lower your blood pressure by flushing salt out of your body, taking this unwanted extra fluid with it. They also cause the walls of your blood vessel to relax and widen, which making it easier for your blood to flow through. This effect also lowers your blood pressure.
