Chamomile is the popular name for the daisy-like plants of the family Asteraceae. Chamomile comes in two different varieties, German Chamomile and Roman Chamomile, and its flower is famous for its white petals and bright yellow center. It is native to Western Europe and Northern Africa and is considered one of the oldest medicinal herbs. Thanks to being rich in terpenoids and flavonoids, chamomile provides a wide range of health benefits such as having anti-inflammatory, sedative, antibacterial, antiallergenic, antioxidant, and antiviral properties. Chamomile can be used in the form of herbal tea, herbal steam extract, tincture, or essential oil.

Let’s take a look at some of the benefits of this incredible plant.

1. Helps with Digestive Problems
Chamomile is used to treat different stomach disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, indigestion, gastritis, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea as the plant contains relaxant properties that aid digestion as well as anti-inflammatory properties that heal the stomach lining.

2. Helps with Anxiety and Depression
One of the reasons chamomile is widely used in many aromatherapy products is its relaxant and mood enhancing properties. Studies have shown that drinking chamomile tea can alleviate symptoms of depression and anxiety as well as promote better sleep.

3. Boosts Immunity System
Researchers have found that volunteers who each drank five cups of chamomile tea a day had a significant increase in hippurate which is associated with higher antibacterial activity and stimulates our immune system.

4. Promotes Skin Health
Chamomile is a great anti-inflammatory and can drastically help with skin conditions such as eczema and rosacea. Since it is also rich in anti-oxidants, using chamomile has been proven to help with skin aging and the overall appearance of the skin.
