The term for an overall feeling of tiredness or lack of energy is fatigue. The feeling of sleepy or drowsiness is not the same as fatigue. The affected individual has no energy and no motivation when he has fatigue.

This condition is a common symptom of many other medical conditions that can be mild to severe. The condition can also be a result of lifestyle choices like poor diet and sedentary living.

With proper nutrition and rest, this should be managed well otherwise, there may be other underlying causes liked to physical or mental health. It is advised to consult the doctor right away.

Causes

Several causes of fatigue exist and it can be divided into 3 categories: Physical health conditions, mental health issues, and lifestyle aspects.

Physical health conditions: this is related to various illnesses like arthritis, anemia, chronic fatigue syndrome, infections (colds/flu), hyper or hypothyroidism, cancer, diabetes, kidney diseases, and others.

Mental health: This is when the person has depression, anxiety, and seasonal affective disorder, fatigue is inevitable as well.

Lifestyle aspects: This can be due to lack of sleep/physical activity, physical exertion, overweight or obesity, boredom, emotional stress, grief, some medication intake, too much caffeine and the like.

    Fatigue is generally defined as a feeling of lack of energy and motivation that can be physical, mental or both.One of the most common reasons of fatigue is lack of proper rest. If you do not get seven to eight hours of sleep, expect to be tired and fatigued. But, some other reasons of this problem can be overwork, stress, worry, boredom, or lack of exercise.

    Fatigue can be due to a variety of medical conditions and health problems. Some causes can include anemia, thyroid conditions, diabetes, lung and heart disease, and having recently given birth. A person who feels fatigued may not exercise, and lack of exercise can cause further fatigue. Lack of exercise may eventually cause deconditioning, making it harder and more tiring to perform a physical task.
