The term for an overall feeling of tiredness or lack of energy is fatigue. The feeling of sleepy or drowsiness is not the same as fatigue. The affected individual has no energy and no motivation when he has fatigue.
This condition is a common symptom of many other medical conditions that can be mild to severe. The condition can also be a result of lifestyle choices like poor diet and sedentary living.
With proper nutrition and rest, this should be managed well otherwise, there may be other underlying causes liked to physical or mental health. It is advised to consult the doctor right away.
Several causes of fatigue exist and it can be divided into 3 categories: Physical health conditions, mental health issues, and lifestyle aspects.
Physical health conditions: this is related to various illnesses like arthritis, anemia, chronic fatigue syndrome, infections (colds/flu), hyper or hypothyroidism, cancer, diabetes, kidney diseases, and others.
Mental health: This is when the person has depression, anxiety, and seasonal affective disorder, fatigue is inevitable as well.
Lifestyle aspects: This can be due to lack of sleep/physical activity, physical exertion, overweight or obesity, boredom, emotional stress, grief, some medication intake, too much caffeine and the like.
