Epsom salt is a mineral compound of magnesium, sulfur, and oxygen. While similar in looks, Epsom salt is completely different from table salt which is made up of sodium chloride. Epsom salt is known to be an easy and safe way to increase the levels of magnesium and sulfate in our bodies. Epsom salt gets its name from a saline spring located in the town of Epsom in Surrey, England, where the compound was first extracted from water.

Epsom salt is mainly used as any salt bath where the body is soaked for 15 to 30 minutes. Even though there is little evidence that our skin can actually absorb the magnesium found in Epsom salt, anecdotal evidence that it may alleviate the symptoms of certain skin conditions and other illnesses have been found.

Here’s an overview of some of the numerous benefits of Epsom salt:

3. Epsom salt helps to relieve cramps and pain. Soaking in a warm Epsom salt bath is proven to relieve sore muscles and joint inflammation.
4. When it comes to the skin, using Epsom salt is proven beneficial for a wide range of skin problems. It is said to relieve sunburns, itchy skin, and bug bites as well as being an excellent exfoliant that promotes healthier-looking skin.
