The inflammation of the gallbladder is medically termed as Cholecystitis. This organ is located at the right part of the abdomen just beneath the liver. It is shaped like a pear. It holds the bile which is a digestive fluid which is released in the small intestine.
Often times, there are stones that accumulate in the gallbladder. This has the tendency to block the tube which leads out of the organ and can be the cause of cholecystitis. Build up of the bile leads to inflammation. Yet, tumors and other issues of the bile duct can also cause the illness.
If the condition is overlooked, serious medical conditions may occur like rupture of the gallbladder which can be life-threatening. Removing the gallbladder through an operation called cholecystectomy is the typical treatment option for the disease.
The symptoms of the disease include fever, vomiting, abdominal tenderness when touched, nausea, upper right abdominal pain and a pain that radiates to the back or right shoulder.
