The condition mastitis is a tissue infection for one or both of mammary glands found inside the breast. Women who produce milk during breastfeeding usually suffer from this disease. This can develop on the first 3 months right after giving birth. It can also occur as long as up to 2 years later.
The condition rarely affects 2 breasts at a time. This can rarely affect men too. Often, it starts with milk duct blockage. Fatigue, chills, and swollen breast are the usual symptoms.
– Burning sensation of the breast
– Flu-like symptoms
– Breast hurts when touched (affected part)
– Swollen and red on the breast area
Self-help remedies are considered the first line of treatment like ensuring to properly drain the breast during feeding.
It is likely for doctors to prescribe antibiotics so as for the infection to be treated. For fever/pain, Tylenol or acetaminophen can be given.
